Burl Strevel (born June 14, 1928 - died November 12, 1981) was an American singer, songwriter, and manager. In 1947, he joined The Blue Ridge Quartet as the bass singer. Around 1956, Strevel left to join The Sunshine Boys Quartet. He returned to The Blue Ridge Quartet in 1964, and remained with the group as singer and manager until his death in 1981. Burl Strevel joined the quartet in 1947 to sing bass, and they moved over to WDBB radio in Burlington, NC. In 1948 they moved to WSPA radio Spartanburg, SC and dropped the "Stamps" name. Former Lone Star Quartet lead and baritone Clarence Turbyfill joined to sing tenor. When George Younce left the group to join the Cathedral Quartet in 1964, Burl Strevel returned to sing bass. Shortly after, former Sunshine Boys member Fred Daniel replaced Ed Sprouse at the tenor position. When Elmo Fagg retired in 1968, he was replaced by Laverne Tripp. Album produced with a blue velvet jacket-front with gold print. 1977 Blue Ridge Now (QCA Records QCA358): Pearly Gates Swing On Open; That's Why I'll Praise Him; I'll Be Going Home; The Triumph Song; Already Mine; I'm Gonna Magnify His Name; A Kid's Song; Praise God I'm Rich; He Is Really Alive; The Me I Want To Be.

A lot of the material would have been familiar in the 19th century (which was just over 50 years gone when the album came out), but Ives also put his own stamp on some of it, such as "Wooly Boogie Bee," adapted from the song "Cindy. The mood is lighthearted, but it's not all wafting innocuous melodies, as "Goober Peas" calls up some serious echoes.
