Turin Cathedral (Italian: Duomo di Torino; Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Turin, northern Italy. Dedicated to Saint John the Baptist (Italian: San Giovanni Battista), it is the seat of the Archbishops of Turin. It was built during 1491–98 and is adjacent to an earlier campanile built in 1470. Designed by Guarino Guarini, the Chapel of the Holy Shroud (the current location of the Shroud of Turin) was added to the structure in 1668–94.

Alessandro Stradella: San Giovanni. Battista Academia Montis Regalis, cond Alessandro De Marchi. January 6 2008, 12:00am, The Sunday Times. Stradella is probably more famous for having been murdered (stabbed thrice in the back, apparently, in 1682) than for his music. That's a pity, for the latter, vital, free-flowing and bold, is well worth exploration.

Catherine Bott (sop). Christine Batty (mez). San Giovanni Battista was first performed in Rome in 1657. The librettist, a Sicilian priest, Girardo Ansaldi dispensed with a testo or narrator concerning himself more directly with the exchanges between Herod and John the Baptist. Stradella portrays this relationship with great subtlety as he does equally that between Herod, his wife Herodias and their daughter Salome. From a purely instrumental viewpoint San Giovanni Battista is interesting for the example it provides of division between concertino and concerto grosso textures.
