Bolero In Bop, Too Late. Orchester Kurt Edelhagen. 0 0 0. Someone So Sweet As You, Pullamo. Buddy Johnson And His Orchestra. With A Song in My Heart/Shadrack. Sonny Rollins Quartet.

Maestro Kurt Edelhagen's Orchestra was a band for its time, deftly blending elements of swing, pop and jazz to help move Germany-at least the Western part of it-away from Nazi strictures and toward a more open-handed environment that not only tolerated but nourished the country's alliance to big-band music that spawned a wide array of world-class

Kurt Edelhagen (born 5 June 1920 Herne, Germany – died 8 February 1982, Cologne, Germany) was a German big band leader. Edelhagen studied conducting and piano in Essen. In 1945, he started a trio, then a big band a year later. He performed on the radio station in Frankfurt am Main, then for three years beginning in 1949 led the Bayerischer Rundfunk in Nuremberg. From 1952 to 1957 he led the Sudwestfunk big band.

Big Bands Live: Orchester Kurt Edelhagen. But back to this album. I know very little about the band leader Kurt Edelhagen, though the one panel of notes in English (another repeats it in German) on the tri-fold digipak says he was a fan of Stan Kenton. The 18 selections here on this 68-minute CD are mostly standards like " St. Louis Blues", "Pennies From Heaven" and "Tuxedo Junction" (performed TWICE - once in studio; one live).
