Initially called Dive, the band started as Smith's solo recording project. After releasing three singles - "Sometime," "Human" and "Geist" - on Captured Tracks, DIIV released its debut studio album, Oshin, on June 26, 2012  . While touring in support of Oshin, DIIV played several unreleased songs live, including "Dust", "Loose Ends" and "Under the Sun" On March 9, 2015, DIIV began recording their second album, Is the Is Are, at Strange Weather Recording Studio in Brooklyn.

Dive is the second studio album by American ambient musician Scott Hansen's project Tycho. Taking around five years to produce and write, Dive, according to Hansen, is a set of "artifacts from a future which might have more in common with our past than our present. It is a hypnagogic pop balearic IDM electronica record with a sound and style that was compared to the works of Scottish group Boards of Canada by multiple professional music journalists.

The nascent Brooklyn-based brainchild of Beach Fossils guitarist Z. Cole Smith, Dive’s lead (and only) single, Sometime, is a chilly, chiming, highly promising cut of delayed guitars, gauzy vocals, and kraut-intoned undertow. Its melody and vocal treatment are slight, and airy, but charged and strong enough to sustain a worthy remix by fellow Beach Fossil John Peña’s own side-project, Heavenly Beat. Sometime Anywhere is the ninth album by the Australian alternative rock band The Church, released in May 1994.
