On the bonus DVDs: Rubinstein Remembered, a documentary chronicling his life, and The Benefit Recital for Israel from 1975. In the 164-page full-color hardcover book: a wealth of essays and photos plus complete discography, track listings and discographical notes. And on those 142 CDs?: Rubinstein's vast array of studio and live recordings of solo, concert and chamber-music pieces, with all albums presented in their best remasterings (using SACD and XRCD mastering sources). And Rubinstein's 1970 tribute album to the composer he cherished above all others, "The Brahms I Love," has poise, beauty and wisdom combined with gorgeous sound that adds a jewelled crown to the pianist's 1953 solo album, "Rubinstein Plays Brahms. Both are wonderful, but "The Brahms I Love" is desert island material.

Moreover, his playing is far from note perfect, although the performance gains accuracy and assurance as it progresses. Certain Rubinstein recordings retain reference status to this day, such as the stereo Chopin Waltzes and French Collection, Beethoven¹s Third Concerto with Erich Leinsdorf, and the stereo Brahms F minor sonata. Yet some of the collection’s finest performances have been overlooked and undervalued. When the mono LP-era Chopin Mazurkas first gained reissue in 1999, I felt that they struck a happy medium between the more familiar HMV shellac set’s sprinting sparkle and the valedictory stereo remake’s breadth and repose. Still, all three versions significantly differ to the point where a clear-cut preference is difficult, even impossible to make.

Harry James And His Orchestra 1948-49 is a double album by American trumpeter Harry James with The Harry James Orchestra. The album consists of live radio transcripts recorded during 1948 and 1949 and was released in 1969 by Big Band Landmarks (Volumes X-XI). As bop surpassed swing by the late 1940s, James was surprisingly open to its influence.

Arthur Rubinstein (January 28, 1887 – December 20, 1982) was a Polish-American pianist. His first recording was made in 1910, but his major recording career was between 1928 and 1976. Rubinstein's first recording was made in 1910; he recorded Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 10 for the Polish "Favorit" label.
