Demi Lovato has revealed her sixth studio album, titled 'Tell Me You Love Me,' will be released Sept. 29, sharing a taste of the title track and what's presumably the album art in a post on social media. The new album will likely include Lovato's single "Sorry Not Sorry," which she released last month. Meanwhile, the singer has recently made several high profile announcements of public performances now clearly leading up to her album release, including the VMAs (which she announced just an hour earlier on Wednesday), the national anthem at the much-hyped Mayweather Vs. McGregor boxing match and last weekend performed at Billboard's Hot 100 Fest. Check out her album announcement here: New Album: Tell Me You Love Me coming September 29th

Lovato's assertions that Tell Me You Love Me is steeped in R&B prove true, and it's not a monochromatic soul either. Opening with the strutting empowerment anthem "Sorry Not Sorry," the album runs the gamut from churchy soul to seductive slow-burners to showstopping ballads designed to showcase every single one of Lovato's diva moves. Although there are ghosts of traditional soul threaded through the record, the production is firmly modern, filled with electronic flair and allusions to hip-hop rhythms

This is where Tell Me You Love Me improves on Lovato’s previous albums: It gives you enough space to see Demi as something other than a no-holds-barred belter. There’s a Kehlani-like jack-of-all-trades behind those pipes, an artist with can skilfully, successfully make hip-hop and R&B work in a pop context. Lead single Sorry Not Sorry -her biggest hit in nearly half a decade and climbing-is a defiant gospel-pop kiss-off that wouldn’t sound out of place in Chance the Rapper’s hands. Forget all the therapy that I’ve been through/Lucky for you, I’ve got all these daddy issues.

Demi Lovato's sixth album is 'Tell Me You Love Me'. Kevin Mazur/Getty Images. Demi Lovato is at her pop-princess best when her majestic wail takes over, as the high points of the singer’s sixth album attest. The title track channels the brassy clamor of her 2015 smash Confident into maximum-overdrive R&B; Sexy Dirty Love throws back to the robo-funk era, with Lovato using its fluid bass line as a springboard for vocal pyrotechnics. The LP gets bogged down in chilled-out trap pop (see the Lil Wayne- assisted Lonely ).
