Johann Sebastian Bach's Violin Concertos, BWV 1041–1043, and his six Brandenburg Concertos survive in their original instrumentation. His harpsichord concertos are mostly adaptations of concertos originally written for other solo instruments. In his early career Bach transcribed concertos by other composers for organ (BWV 592–596) and for harpsichord (BWV 972–987). His Italian Concerto, for two-manual harpsichord, was published in 1735.

Johann Sebastian Bach. Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson emerged from considerable popularity in his native country, signing with Deutsche Grammophon and releasing an attractive album of music by Philip Glass. With his second album for the label, Johann Sebastian Bach, he ups the stakes; the title itself announces a grand ambition to reimagine the compositions of the first master of keyboard music. lafsson rightly points out that the Bach canon is constantly changing, and indeed many of the pieces on his program are not very familiar.

Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach in 1685 and died in Leipzig 1750 after a long and distinguished musical career. He learnt to play a number of instruments alongside his education as a chorister. After a succession of various posts as organist and choirmaster, Bach was appointed organist and court musician to Duke Wilhelm Ernst of Weimar in 1708 where he gradually earned a reputation as a brilliant performer on the organ. His appointment as Court Composer to the prince elector of Saxony in 1736 confirmed Bach’s position as a highly regarded and well-established com poser in his circle. Johann Sebastan Bach as a teacher. Johann Sebastian Bach was one of the most significant teachers and composers of his times. His pupils enjoyed challenging instruction, which not only covered clavier-playing and compositional technique but also gave a profound understanding of music.

Johann Sebastian Bach was a German composer, organist, harpsichordist, violist, and violinist whose sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra, and solo instruments drew together the strands of the Baroque period and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he did not introduce new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France.
