In the late 80s, New Beat was the choice of music in Belgium. It was slow compared to the Techno and House counterparts, but this EBM-influenced genre was great in so many ways. Slow, dark and mysterious combined sometimes with Acid and most notably the basslines. High Tention is an amazing track produced by Belgium's finest, Jos Borremans. There was a select group of producers around that time who produced about the majority of the New Beat classics. Jos Borremans was one of them. And Subway was an important label. New Beat at its best. The acid bassline is so amazingly programmed alongside the percussion, its almost scary. The haunting strings are just perfect and fit in with the bassline. The few vocal parts are great and deliver a special feeling. Although there are only statement vocals like "Stand Clear" or "Let there be brightness!" they add to the mysterious production. Breathtaking production!!
