Perfect World" is a song performed by Huey Lewis and the News and released as the first single from the album Small World in late June 1988. The single peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 and on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by Alex Call, a former bandmate of Lewis and Sean Hopper from the band, Clover. Call had previously co-written the hit song "867-5309/Jenny" for Tommy Tutone. Huey Lewis gave the song a reggae flavor.

It couldn’t last, and although the lead single, ‘Perfect World’, was a N. US hit, the album did not sell as well as its predecessors. A wide-ranging collection of more roots-oriented songs which featured an extended cast of contributing musicians, including Stan Getz and Bruce Hornsby, Small World was a bold realisation of the band’s musical vision rather than its commercial ambition. If anything, it was too good to be another blockbuster.

In 1979, the band's name was Huey Lewis and the American Express. Under this name they released a single and secured their recording contract with Chrysalis Records at the end of the year.
