Singing to Transatlantic Records, Gryphon released their eponymous debut album in June 1973, adorned in a striking cover designed by Dan Pearce. The uniqueness of their musical style led to a commission to write a score for a stage production of The Tempest in 1974, parts of which formed the band’s next album, Midnight Mushrumps, released in April 1974. Raindance was Gryphon’s final album for Transatlantic Records. Issued in 1975, the record saw Philip Nestor replaced by Malcolm Bennett and was another successful record.

I got Gryphon's RAINDANCE album bundled with their highly rated RED QUEEN TO GRYPHON THREE, and they are grouped under one album in my iPod. As a result, the tracks off RAINDANCE have usually come up as afterthoughts to RQrGT, the "leftovers. My impression had always been that there was nice music in that group, but also a lot of forgettable material. There are also some ambient passages with various electronic sound effects. The album consists of nine tracks. Some of the titles are in German in French.

Raindance (Sara Storer album). Raindance is the seventh studio album by Australian country music singer Sara Storer. It was released on 12 April 2019. It marked an early expansion to their sound with the addition of electric guitars, keyboards, and various wind instruments such as the bassoon and krumhorn that were featured little in rock music at the time. Gryphon recorded their second album, Midnight Mushrumps, in January 1974 at Chipping Norton Recording Studios, Oxfordshire. Its centrepiece is the 18-minute title track conceived by Harvey. After recording the fourth album Raindance, Taylor and Bennett left the band and went on to form Precious Little Gryphon split up in 1977 after the release of their fifth and final album, Treason, released on Harvest Records.
