Going for the One is the eighth studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 15 July 1977 by Atlantic Records. After taking a break in activity in 1975 for each member to release a solo album and their 1976 North American tour, the band relocated to Montreux, Switzerland to record their next studio album.

I have the Pink Floyd 'Animals' album and, I agree with you, it is a brilliant album. I will listen to the rest of the 'Going For The One' album. Cassivellaunus HonestusДень назад. Yes is always more vibrant whereas Pink Floyd has a more moody sound.

One of the album’s greater flaws is found in the opening title track, an unusually rocky affair that, while on itself not particularly bad, simply does not fit in very well with the rest of the record. It is on this track that Yes first really started to make a compromise with the new sound that was taking over. As the future showed, this wasn’t necessarily a bad development, although it did eventually destroy the quality of the band’s music in the latter half of the 80’s. Let’s be honest: Going for the One has absolutely nothing on Yes’ classic era. This is, of course, why that era ended before this album. That isn’t to say it’s bad. It’s just a tiny bit more suited to the mainstream, and it lacks focus and direction that is on a level comparable to say, Fragile and Close to the Edge. The moments of brilliance are still here, only not as easily found. Recommended for the more-than-average Yes fan.

This album showcases Yes at their most concise, and is probably the best starting point. 1972's Fragile introduced Yes' highest-powered line-up, as the silver-cape wearing, 12-keyboard-hauling Rick Wakeman replaced the mediocre Tony Kaye. After an extended hiatus following Relayer, Yes regrouped for 1977's Going for the One, bringing grand old ham Wakeman back to record an album of much fewer pretensions than anything they'd done since Fragile. Of course, that really meant only one 15-minute epic instead of four, but right down to the non-Roger Dean cover art, it signaled a new start for Yes.

Going for The One is better, musically and All the tracks, including Parallels and Awaken wins the War, by far. Tony DixonVor 2 Tage. I have the Pink Floyd 'Animals' album and, I agree with you, it is a brilliant album. Cassivellaunus HonestusVor 2 Tage.
