A separate film score album, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Original Score), composed by Tyler Bates, was also released by Hollywood Records on the same date.

A common criticism that this album and it's predecessor receive is that it is a rehashing of "classic rock" using a Marvel Studios film to market it. While on the surface this may be true it is far more important to note that when you view the films the music enhances it and vice versa. I bought this digital album prior to the release of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2". There were several songs that I enjoyed thoroughly.
A separate film score album, Guardians of the Galaxy, composed by Tyler Bates, was also released by Hollywood Records on the same date, along with a deluxe version featuring both albums. The soundtrack album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting entirely of previously released songs to top the chart. The album topped the Billboard Top Soundtracks for 11 consecutive weeks and 16 weeks in total. As of April 2017, it has sold over . 5 million copies in the United States alone, and has been certified Platinum by the RIAA
