Thursday is the second mixtape by Canadian singer The Weeknd, independently released on August 18, 2011. It follows his critically acclaimed, Polaris Music Prize-nominated debut mixtape House of Balloons (2011). Its music incorporates downtempo, dubstep, dream pop, hip hop, rock and reggae styles. As with his previous works, Canadian record producers Doc McKinney and Illangelo were responsible for production of the mixtape. Young Money artist Drake contributes guest vocals to the track "The Zone".

Released on August 18th, 2011, Thursday was the second tape of The Weeknd’s Trilogy. It features one of the only two guests of the entire trilogy; Drake on The Zone. It features more of the hazy drug and sex-fueled R&B that filled The Weeknd’s debut, House Of Balloons.

The drugged-up R&B project returns with its second free album, picking up where House of Balloons left off and adding some new twists. There's the same ineffably skeezy vibe and a genuine sense of the album-as-journey, and the production is slightly harsher and streaked with violence, befitting the lyrical content. It sounds a bit ridiculous to say that the Weeknd avoid the sophomore slump with Thursday, given that the Toronto crew's first release arrived just five months ago. But not many artists, especially in the Internet era, show up with such a well-developed aesthetic (a very foggy, of-the-moment variation on mainstream radio's slow jams) and something as self-assured as the House of Balloons mixtape. And those that do probably don't have a Drake co-sign and such a carefully managed cloak of anonymity.

The Weeknd - Thursday The Weeknd's debut album/mixtape House of Balloons took the over-the-top literalism of singers like The-Dream and R. Kelly to a grittier and even more explicit world of sex, drugs, violence and, above all, self-pity. There was a noir-ish coat of regret and withdrawal comparable to fellow Torontonian Drake (who makes an appearance here on "The Zone"). That it was bolstered by singer Abel Tesfaye's angelic melisma and some of the most intricate production heard in R&B in a while was mere icing on the cake.
