This year brought many outstanding blues, rock and roots albums. We’re so fortunate that there are so many talented artists who are releasing such good music. These 2018 releases are an inspiration and each one is chosen for its musicianship, songs and overall quality. Blackberry Smoke teamed up with Robert Randolph on one of the tunes and the result is a stomping rhythm with a gospel choir. Every song is strong on this album and includes additional guests, Amanda Shires and The Wood Brothers. His touring band of legendary artists back him up-Reese Wynans on keys, Michael Rhodes on bass, Anton Fig on drums, Lee Thornburg on trumpet, Paulie Cerra on sax, and more. The album covers the spectrum of blues, from rocking numbers to slower, even tender blues tracks, showcasing Patlansky’s versatility as an artist.
The "Blues Masterworks" is a collection of some of his most important and influential songs. But on this particular album, you'll get to hear that classic blues and some of the historically most important guitar sessions, including the famous "Hear My Train A Comin'," played on a 12-string guitar.
Recorded at Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, California & IBC Studios, London, England between November 15 & 25, 1970. Other Versions (5 of 33) View All. Cat.
The Blues has traveled around the world and back again, and our list reflects this and they do! but to our ears they sound pretty good. When Stevie-Ray Vaughan came along in the 80s, the Blues was suffering a period of respite, but his hard-rocking Texas Roadhouse style brought it to the fore again along with new names like Robert Cray and Albert Collins, and even John Lee Hooker had a worldwide hit album. Willie Dixon said, Blues is the roots, and all the other music is the fruits. The legacy of the Blues has penetrated all forms of modern music
Still Got the Blues is the album that marked Gary Moore’s style change. Moore was one of the finest electric blues guitarists in the business and the record does not fail to impress. Virgin released the vinyl version in Europe, South America, Australia and everywhere but the . If you’re familiar with her work then you’ve probably heard her vocal style described as a blend of Janis Joplin and Bonnie Raitt. Back to the River was Susan Tedeschi’s second release on the Verve Forecast label and her work on it shows a level of growth and maturity not found on her earlier releases.
Certainly Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page made no secret of the fact that he had been deeply influenced by blues and that Led Zep was going to be a modern day outlet for the form of American music that inspired him to become a guitarist in the first place. And early Zep certainly borrowed deeply from both blues and folk traditions, albeit they made their tunes a lot heavier.
Blues & Roots is an album by Charles Mingus, recorded in 1959 and released in 1960. It has been reissued on CD, by Atlantic Records and Rhino. Mingus explained the birth of this record in the album's liner notes: This record is unusual-it presents only one part of my musical world, the blues.
His latest release, Fire Red Moon, is the guitarist’s first-ever blues album, although, as he explains, it’s really nothing new for him. I think all of my music has a blues base to it, explains Chaquico. I tried to pay tribute to my guitar heroes while still putting my stamp on the tunes. If you listen to the song carefully, you’ll hear those six different tones come and go. Sometimes the guitar’s really dirty and muddy and sometimes it’s super clean and biting. To me, those are all blues tones, and hopefully it still sounds like the same guitar part and the same player. I kind of look at my career like a road.
Back to the Roots is a 1971 double album by John Mayall released on Polydor. Recording sessions took place both in California and London where Mayall invited some former members of his band, notably guitarists Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor. At the end of the 1980s Mayall remixed some tracks and issued them along with some of the older material as Archives to Eighties. An expanded two-CD version of Back to the Roots now includes both the original and later remixed versions of the tracks.
