Nothing but a Heartache" Track Info.

Nothing but a Heartache. Artist: The Flirtations.

Album: released as a single (1968). The Flirtations were a female trio from South Carolina who made their way to England in 1967, where their American Soul sound went over well. They were discovered by Wayne Bickerton, who signed them to Deram Records and produced this track. Their most famous song and only hit, it has a strong Motown influence. Not only does the group sound like The Supremes, but the song contains lyrics of heartache and pain set to a lush, uptempo groove - something typical of Motown songs like "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "It's A Shame

Nothing But a Heartache" rose to first place on the "Bubbling Under" list in December 1968 and gave the Flirtations a second Top 40 hit in the Netherlands, reaching No. 36 in early 1968. Following an unsuccessful December 1968 US release, "Nothing But a Heartache" was re-issued in the US in early 1969, with "How Can You Tell Me?" now replacing the original seasonal B-side. Nothing But a Heartache" debuted at No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 on 8 March 1969. The single reached the Top 20 in several US markets - its chart peak in Boston was N. .
