The Overlanders were a British music group active during the 1960s. Originally playing folk songs, the band found success hard to come by during the beat era, and so converted to a more mainstream sound.

The Settlers were a folk-oriented group from the English West Midlands, who formed in the mid-1960s.

As a folk band the Overlanders were founded in 1963 by Peter Bartholomew, Paul Arnold and Laurie Mason. Despite the successful producer Tony Hatch they had a hard time against the emerging beat music. They released a series of critically quite favorably regarded singles without creating a commercial breakthrough. Only with Yesterday's Gone they had in the . in the wake of the British Invasion a respectable result. With Ian Griffith as a replacement in 1967 was followed by a collaborative album with the Settlers, the amplified went back in the direction of folk and moved away from the then current musical trends. Thus, the end of the Overlanders was predictable and the end of 1967 they separated. Paul Arnold, whose solo career was also unsuccessful, founded in 1969, the New Overlanders, with their publications no longer even made it into the charts.

Go! With The Overlanders And The Settlers. The Settlers started out in the 60s, their first release in 1964. They were a trio for their debut album (Island ILP 947A, 1967), Mike Jones, Cindy Kent and John Fyfe, mixing Dylan with folk/bluegrass. They soon added a bass player, Geoff, who lived in the same house as Tony Hooper in Hampstead that inspired the Strawbs song "Pieces of 79 and 15". The Settlers used to perform several tracks by the Strawbs, including "Always On My Mind" and "You Keep Going Your Way"

They followed their debut up three months later with the even more beat-oriented "Movin'" b/w "Rainbow": the A-side had crisper rhythm and lead guitar parts (the latter very angular and catchy in its off-kilter way) and Merseybeat-style harmonies; the B-side had a flashy, rippling lead guitar part  . The group was rescued in late 1965 following the release of the Beatles' Rubber Soul album.

Whereas Go!, (Pye Records, 1966) paired the group with The Overlanders both separately and together. The eponymous The Settlers, for (Island Records, 1967) included Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Mr Tambourine Man" and such folk standards as "The Wreck of the Old 97".
