Field In his own words Krgovich explains: Since 2002 I’ve been putting out albums. I haven’t counted how many, but 16 year’s worth anyway. I guess what makes OUCH stick out in the pile is the fact that it’s a breakup album: a concept as old as the hills but completely new to me. Up until last year I’d never fallen in love or experienced a broken heart. Not even close really. I can’t believe heartbreak is a thing that happens to pretty much everybody! It’s so wild! Maybe the wildest thing besides having a baby or death! No wonder I managed to avoid it for so long

On his latest album Ouch, the Vancouver singer-songwriter lays everything bare, divulging private pains without a shadow of reserve or self-consciousness. Ouch was a provoked by a breakup-Krgovich’s first, despite being 35 at the time of the album’s writing. Over the course of 12 grief-stricken, heavy-hearted songs, he relays the anguish of being left by a man he loved a great deal. The aftermath seethes with dejection and despondency, torments that seem in the moment permanent, with no prospect of relief

Nicholas Krgovich's last album, the laid-back but existentially troubled In an Open Field, came together over a period of five years. The Vancouver-born singer-songwriter released five other languid solo LPs in that stretch, and he'd toured extensively, but the songs of dormant turmoil he ended up with on Open Field had sat around, waiting to be finished. The tap turned on. I'm sure that happens to a bunch of people, but that's never happened to me in this particular way before. That album is called OUCH, and its first single, premiering below, is "Rosemary. Like the songs on In an Open Field, it's gentle, piano-led, easily melodic, wrapped in layers of sardonic humor, and devastating after a few listens

Nicholas Krgovich, Album. By no means spartan, the arrangements on Ouch are overall less dense than on 2017's dreamy In an Open Field, though there are echoes of that album's lush splendor, especially on the wistful sax and flute-decorated standout, "Spa," a chronicle of the couple's last day together as viewed through the sad lens of hindsight.
