Monte Cristo Cottage (also known as Eugene O'Neill Summer House) was the summer home of American actor James O'Neill and his family, notably his son Eugene O'Neill. It is a National Historic Landmark located at 325 Pequot Avenue in New London, Connecticut. James O'Neill came to New London, Connecticut in June 1884 and purchased two plots of land on Pequot Avenue for his wife Ella's 27th birthday. The property included a cottage built in the 1840s which he expanded.

Especially their Monte Cristo sandwich. Yum. You take a perfectly healthy turkey and ham sandwich, batter it up, deep fry it, coat it in powdered sugar, dip it raspberry jam, and wonder why America is obese. Cut 3 strips from the dough. Wrap one sandwich in one strip of dough. Wet fingertips to wet the seams and pinch them together. Repeat with last two strips, then repeat with second package of dough until all 6 sandwiches are covered. In large skillet, heat canola oil (about 1 inch deep) until very hot (sprinkle of flour should make it sizzle).

The Glorious Monte Cristo Sandwich. In a shallow dish, whisk egg and milk together. Dip the sandwich into the mixture, making sure to coat both sides. Heat butter in a pan, swirling to coat the bottom. Also I was surprised that I actually would have been happy with just half of the sandwich, as also noted, but I ate the whole thing regardless.
