Born Like This is the sixth studio album by British-American rapper/producer MF Doom. It was released under the pseudonym "DOOM" on March 24, 2009 through Lex Records. It debuted at number 52 on the Billboard 200 chart, having sold 10,895 copies as of March 29, 2009. In addition to tracks produced by MF Doom, the album includes production by frequent collaborator Madlib, as well as J Dilla. The album title is borrowed from Charles Bukowski's poem "Dinosauria, We," which employs it as a cadence.

So, The Doom mythology continues with "Born Like This". I'm going to start this off and say I do not believe that this is one of Doom's best offerings. I like Doom putting his tyrannical iron hand on solo tracks over him going bar for bar with other MCs because I believe that the rpm of how he delivers his poetry (as well as his syntax) does not match up to the styles of those that he allows to hop on the track with him in Castle Doom, Latveria. The album maintains a really high standard throughout, with some amazingly inventive tracks. Standout tracks are perhaps the explosive "Gazzillion Ear" (sampling J Dilla), the astro-sounding "Absolutely", which details the intelligence and subtlety of his lyrical prowess (a Madlib production), and the relentlessly pumping comedic track "Microwave Mayo".

The album, Born Like This, is a refreshing reminder of what DOOM is capable of when he’s on. Gazillion Ear finds DOOM sounding as fired up as ever, spitting high-speed couplets over a rolling funky, jazzy sample courtesy of the late J Dilla. He spits verse about the sickest ninja injury this century on the fun, string-laden That’s That, and between silly board game jingle samples on Lightworks, DOOM lays down the challenge that any street corner could be the platform. As many highlights as there are on Born Like This, the album’s ratio of filler to fire is higher than it should be. Microwave Mayo and More Rhymin’ sound surprisingly unfinished, and un-fleshed out, even for a rapper who perfected the art of the two-minute abstract jam. The Ghostface collaboration Angelz lacks the fluid chemistry and fun that the duo have shown on past tracks such as Underwater or The Mask.
