Believe" is a song recorded by the American singer Cher for her twenty-second album, Believe (1998), released by Warner Bros. It was released as the lead single from the album on October 19, 1998. It was written by Brian Higgins, Stuart McLennen, Paul Barry, Steven Torch, Matthew Gray and Timothy Powell, with Cher also contributing, and was produced by Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling.

Cher's Believe album was released in 1998 and features Cher's smash hit Believe. Believe put Cher's music back on top & her biggest selling album to date. Cher’s recording career has long taken a back seat to her acting pursuits, but with Believe she’s back with a vengeance as a throbbing disco diva. Although no fewer than five producers with dance pedigrees are along for the project (including Todd Terry, Junior Vasquez of Madonna fame, and Rob Dickins, who helped resurrect Rod Stewart’s ailing career), this is by no means a dance album in the ’90s trip-hop sense of the term.

Believe is the twenty-second studio album by American singer-actress Cher, first released on October 22, 1998 by Wea Records. Believe represents a complete musical departure from her previous works, consisting of dance-pop and Eurodance oriented styles, yet it includes a broader range of various musical genres such as techno, house, disco and Latin while its lyrical topics include freedom, individualism and relationships. The album features some of the new technology of the time, like the usage of Auto-tune, which would eventually become known as the "Cher effect".

There are a couple of typos in the booklet, these include but are not limited to:
- Track 5 credits Robin Smith and Mark Taylor for “Laughs And Lager Jeff “Duo” Taylor String Arrangement”. The roles should be split to ‘Laughs And Lager’ credited to Jeff “Duo” Taylor and ’String Arrangement’ credited to Robin Smith and Mark Taylor.

- Track 10 writing credits are for ‘Desmond Warren / Diane Warren’ instead of the proper writers Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child.

OK so Cher's vocoded voice on the title track is the butt of many jokes now that the album has come and gone but you have got to hand it to Cher - who would have thought that she would go record a dance song at what? 50 something? and have it become a practical anthem for gays and straights (is it even possible???) alike, become the #1 pop song for the year (per Billboard) and -- get this -- the rest of the album is even better than the lead single. Every song on here, has solid production, tight vocals (even when vocoded), and is a great piece of work on its own as well as part of the greater whole. Even the remix of "We All Sleep Alone" is impeccable - who would have thought THAT song would've worked here? Kudos to Cher and all that worked on the album - it may sound trite, but they made the perfect hybrid pop-dance crossover album and gave Cher a comeback to die for. What more could you want?

it's not a vocoder. It's autotune. I blame this song for what we've had to deal with for the last 14 years! And this album SUCKED.
