Richard Daniel Warren (born 3 June 1973 in Sutton-in-Ashfield) is an English musician, songwriter and producer. Warren signed his first record deal with Heavenly Records at the height of Britpop in 1996, as one third of The Hybirds. In 1999 when the band split, he branched out on his own and away from guitar-led pop, signing to Mute Records as Echoboy after Daniel Miller heard his releases on Earworm Records following his self-released 12" Flashlegs (Suite).

Black Angel is the fourth studio album by British singer-songwriter Mica Paris. It was released on August 10, 1998 by Cooltempo, Chrysalis, her first and last for these labels. This album was Paris' last album to chart in the UK Top 200 to date and features production from Boy George and Raphael Saadiq.

Richard Warren sings his bittersweet Laments straight from the heart and through a myriad of musical genres. Warren's distinctive take on explosive guitar rock ('The Devil's My Shepherd') to gentle southern soul ('It's a Crying Shame') through contemporary folk song ('Black Stone Empires'), country ('How Could You Be So Blind'), mournful blues ('No Companion Like Solitude') and the haunting existential post-punk flavoured' No Angel' (the first seven inch single to be released from Laments this week). It was a bit of a struggle to whittle the list down to the final 11, but it hangs together well. It's important to me that an album is a diary of the time it was created.
