The Fine Art of Self Destruction is Jesse Malin's debut solo album. Released on December 24, 2002 in the UK and January 28, 2003 in the United States. It was produced by Ryan Adams (his album-production debut). All tracks written by Jesse Malin, except where noted. Jesse Malin – vocals, acoustic guitar. Johnny Pisano - bass guitar, upright bass, background vocals. Paul Garisto - drums. Joe McGinty - piano, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer. Toby Dammit - percussion.

Jesse Malin has come a long way from his glam rock heyday of fronting D Generation, and his solo debut, The Fine Art of Self Destruction, is an impressive look at Malin's musical maturation. He's a crooner, an Americana caterwaul, and a picaro of his native New York City, but a lonesome one at that. The Fine Art of Self Destruction displays a hearty mix of bittersweet alt-country ("Queen of the Underworld") and ballsy roots rock ("Wendy"), but the album is fully supported with a punk rock edge that Malin's most familiar with

Jesse Malin is rooted in the grimy New York that would have been familiar to the Ramones, the young Bruce Springsteen or Popeye Doyle in The French Connection. This is Malin's solo debut, although he made three albums with his erstwhile band, D Generation. With Ryan Adams as producer, Malin has taken a giant leap and emerged as a fully formed singer-songwriter, bashing out bruised and baleful ballads such as Brooklyn ("You used to like the sad songs of doom and gloom") alongside brash urban rockers like TKO and Wendy.

All the great songs and lyrics from the "The Fine Art of Self Destruction" album ont he Web's largest and most authoritative lyrics resource. Jesse Malin (born January 26, 1968 in Flushing, Queens, New York, . He has played with Heart Attack band members:Javier Madariaga-drums, Paul Praver-base and D Generation. He is currently a solo recording artist.

country poster boy Ryan Adams’ turn as guitarist and producer on Jesse Malin’s debut album, The Fine Art of Self Destruction, could easily have overshadowed Malin and his material. Luckily they’re both stronger than that. Malin’s frontman chops were honed with New York trash brats D Generation, and he still rocks pretty hard, but an unmistakable pop melodicism runs through Self Destruction, a gentle wave reinforced by Malin’s powerfully vulnerable Paul Brady-meets-Neil Young vocals and a lyrical bent that reads like roughshod romantic poetry.

Fine Art" is so self-assured and fully-realised there really is no need to covet interest-by-proxy in drawing attention to the fact that the album was produced by Ryan Adams (who also guests on guitar). Comparisons to Ryan Adams (even in his image) and Bruce Springsteen were inevitable when American singer-songwriter Jesse Malin released his debut album 'The Fine Art of Self Destruction' in 2002. In fact, it was actually produced by Adams, a good friend and champion of his, who was making his own debut as a producer.

On streaming services, "Xmas" is listed as "Xmas, Brooklyn (band)" and is 8:32 in length.

The track listing is wrong for the first disc. I reached out to One Little Indian and they claim that it was not a mistake and that it was intentional. Side A actually only has 6 tracks and ends with the "Fine Art of Self Destruction" and side B does have 5 tracks but begins with "Riding on the Subway" and doesn't actually have "Brooklyn (Band)." One Little Indian claim that it was done intentionally because Ryan Adams wanted to use the original art but I find this a lame excuse for a missing track and an incorrect track listing. I'm not even sure why that makes any sense.

The back cover and the inner ring side B lists "Bonus Track: Brooklyn (band)" but its not on my LP. Anyone else have the same issue?
