AFX In His Third Analogue Bubblebath ‎(CD, Album, RE, Sli). Some of it may be a little demanding for some listeners, and maybe some of it could develop a little more, but I like it. Responder Notifique-me 1 Helpful.

Analogue Bubblebath Vol. 3 ‎(2xLP, Album, RE). Rephlex. CAT 008 LP. UK. 2002. It covers a lot of different style including 2 of AFX's very few forays with Trance. Track 2 is a highly repetitive track with incrediblyspooky synths and a heavy simplistic beat and beautiful high-pitched noises, it reminds me of a desert at night.

His first full-length release, this long out-of-print album features James's early brand of techno, indebted to acid and trance but still of a distorted quality all its own. No song titles are provided on the CD version (which comes in a slimline case with only a sticker on the front), but the LP version (enclosed in a brown paper bag) lists long decimals as the titles.

Analogue Bubblebath Vol I is the first EP released by electronic musician Richard D. James under the alias of The Aphex Twin on the 1991 issue, and AFX on subsequent issues. It is the first release in the Analogue Bubblebath series. It was reputedly first put together by James at age 17. The EP consists of four tracks, all done in the acid house style (except for the first "Analogue Bubblebath"), which was popular at the time

Track 11 sounds like it should have been on Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2, and 12 is a minute of what sounds like rain and a man hyperventilating. All the way through I can't help but think that AFX put more effort into producing Analogue Bubblebath 4. Sure there are only five tracks,(the last being a snippet of an interview with Evel Knievel,) but they just seem much more thoughtful. as the titles of these tracks indicate, this album is high on the analogue, and low on the bubblebath. Machines did this, to be sure, seemingly devoid of human input. What few vocal samples are in here are warped and twisted to a degree RDJ does not usually impliment.

Notes

This is the original issue: a loose CD in a bubble-wrap envelope sleeve, with a matte sticker on the bubble wrap. The sticker uses black ink only, has bubbles in the artwork, mentions "66% more bubbles", and contains the only text on the entire release; no track titles are listed, and the CD is entirely blank (aside from the matrix codes).

Very similar editions:
• 1993 reissue with the same CD, but the disc is housed in a slimline case which is inside a slightly larger bubble-wrap envelope. The sticker is on the case instead of the bubble-wrap, and the back of the case may have a "MADE IN ENGLAND" sticker for export.
• 1997 reissue made by Key Production or by Technicolor (as indicated by matrix data). These came in a slimline jewel case with new, two-color stickers (black and blue ink) on both front and back, and the back sticker has a barcode.
• 2002(?) reissue containing the 1997 Technicolor CD, but with stickers added to give it a different barcode and Category.

Why is this in the albums section? It's an EP.
Ffan
my guess is you think that because its packaged in a maxi CD case, which could be misleading, in the end, its not about the packaging, its about the music (number of tracks, duration)

Black_Hawk_Down.
Its gotta be 40 minutes long at least. He will label something an "EP" or "Single" like the Ventolin single in the US had 12 tracks and was over 40 minutes but was put out for the price of a single. He chooses to put stuff out and calls it what he wants to. AB3 in most formats has at least 12 tracks over 40 minutes. That an album to most people.

wildblunthickok Autechre would like to have word with you (60 minute or 120 minute EPs)

no it's not, it's either 55 minutes (CD) or 50 minutes (LP)

51 minutes is an EP? Since when? Just because the vinyl edition is missing half the album doesn't make every edition an ep.

This is a decent album with plenty of scope. Some of it may be a little demanding for some listeners, and maybe some of it could develop a little more, but I like it.

Brilliant album. It covers a lot of different style including 2 of AFX's very few forays with Trance. Track one is trancey, borderline cheesy but amazing, it has a rather industrial and repetitive beat glossed over with really nice synthesizers and uplifting chord-changes.Track 2 is a highly repetitive track with incrediblyspooky synths and a heavy simplistic beat and beautiful high-pitched noises, it reminds me of a desert at night. Track 3 is weird, more spooky synth sounds, a really funky hiphop beat, strange illegible vocal samples and a metal clank, love it.Track 4 is an atmospheric gabba-techno hybrid with overtones of calming ambient sounds reminiscent of Super Metroid. Track 5 is a nice intermission song which is pretty much indescribable but very enjoyable. Track 6 starts out as what sounds like a hairdryer pointed at a speaker and explodes into another Trance track although a lot harder than Track 1, great song. Track 7 is vintage mental-as-fuck AFX acid in its purest form with a bit of Caustic Window spliced in. Track 8 is a really sweet ambient song with nice beats and sounds throughout. Track 9 is slightly industrial squelchy acid with a sample of a delirious laugh being looped, great track too. Track 10 is thirty-five enjoyable seconds of mental Gabber. Track 11 is a very dark full-on Ambient tune with a really spooky vibe. Track 12 sounds like satan taking an analogue bubble-bath. The final track is slightly dated techno which wouldnt sound of place on a Caustic Window EP, good song though.

I don't understand why people hate this album so much. It's amazing.

A couple of tracks on here are excellent, but for the most part this is not a very enjoyable release. Normally Aphex Twin's work is indeed very complex and wild, but this release is particularly annoying on the ears, with screeching synths at some points, and repetition and lack of creativity all throughout. If you want some of his better analogue releases, take a look at his later Analord series, summarized in his "Chosen Lords" CD.

Analogue Bubblebath 3 (most notably track 2) proves that a prolonged, beyond-repetitious, not-exactly-complex string of tinnitus-inducing hi-hat-like samples, sometimes gritty and nasal booty bass booms, and atonal-yet-pretty, feather-light-yet-cheaply-overdriven ambient synth tones can actually be aesthetically pleasing. Listening to this disc gives me the same sense of wonder that I experience when I view paintings in an art museum - more so than listening to any Western "art music" I've ever heard. Genius, indeed.
