Waka, Jawaka, Hot Rats (LP, Album). Bizarre Records, Reprise Records. Frank Zappa - Waka/Jawaka (Full Album) 36:20. nattlerke, venetian-guy.
Frank Zappa chronology. The Grand Wazoo (1972). Over-Nite Sensation (1973). The album is mostly made up of instrumental pieces, similar in style to those of three previous albums: Hot Rats (October 1969), Burnt Weeny Sandwich (February 1970), and Waka/Jawaka (July 1972). Zappa was also producer and principal composer for Jean-Luc Ponty's album King Kong (1970) during this period. All songs written, composed and arranged by Frank Zappa.
Waka/Jawaka (also known as Waka/Jawaka - Hot Rats) is the fourth solo album by Frank Zappa, released in July 1972. The album is the jazz-influenced precursor to The Grand Wazoo (November 1972), and, as the front cover indicates, a sequel of sorts to 1969's Hot Rats. According to Zappa, the title "is something that showed up on a ouija board at one time. Big Swifty" is a jazz-fusion tune, similar to many of Zappa's pieces from the jazz period of his compositional time line
Hot Rats part 2 and just like its predecessor it is also a solo album. This album is probably my fave along with Wazoo (but that one is a Mother album). Along with the usual Underwood, we find Dunbar, Duke, Preston, and a bunch of lesser-known musicians as guests. A weird and very green faucet artwork doesn't really pay that much a compliment to the superb music on this album, but it allows Frank to give it the Hot Rats reference on the tap handles. there is still a remain of humour in the music itself, or alse this would not have been a Zappa album. One thing, though: the album is a bit short with its 36-mins, especially when you know that Zappa regularly surpassed 45 mins in most of his albums. Summary: Pre-2012 CDs have copious amounts of additional reverb. The 2012 CD is dry and matches the vinyl.
Waka/Jawaka was Zappa's second solo album and is occasionally referred to as "Hot Rats II" (the handles of the faucets on the cover artwork show the words "hot" and "rats" instead of "hot" and "cold"). His writing and recording technique had matured a lot in very little time. The dirty blues jamming of the 1969 LP was replaced by clean, crisp jazz improvisations - no need to say this was also an abrupt change in style from the Mothers' 1969-1971 incarnation
Waka/Jawaka (also known as Waka/Jawaka - Hot Rats) is the fourth solo album by Frank Zappa, released in July 1972.
When you think of Frank Zappa who do you think of him as, the freak who formed the Mothers of Invention or one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century" Well, this is the first album that gave Zappa the reputation of being a great composer. This album is full of jams that will absolutely blow your mind. Released in 1969, This is a mostly instrumental album (Willie The Pimp has vocals from Capt. Beefheart) that takes you on a journey through the land of Jazz Fusion. This is actually the first Jazz Fusion album ever released, and also one of the first 16-track recordings
