Roger Kellaway (born November 1, 1939) is an American composer, arranger, and pianist. Born in Waban, Massachusetts, he is an alumnus of the New England Conservatory. Kellaway has composed commissioned works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, and jazz big band, as well as for film, TV, ballet and stage productions. One of his early mentors, the late Phil Saltman, was his piano teacher and ran a summer music camp called ENCORE in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

Other than a long-forgotten date for the Regina label in 1963, this set (reissued in 1997 on CD) was pianist Roger Kellaway's debut as a leader. Teamed with bassist Russell George and drummer Dave Bailey, the 26-year-old shows off impressive technique, a swinging style, and the willingness to experiment on such tunes as "Brats," which uses a prepared piano, and the polyrhythmic "Signa: .

Roger Kellaway è sempre stato un pianista dalla cifra espressiva camaleontica e per questo difficilmente riconducibile ad uno stile ben preciso. E lo testimoniano le infinite esperienze per big-band, musiche da film e perfino contesti pop che hanno connotato la sua carriera artistica. Per quel che riguarda il jazz, purtroppo poche sono le sue incisioni a suo nome per apprezzarne le doti di raffinato pianista. Lo ritroviamo a capo di uno swingante trio con pianoforte - chitarra - contrabbasso, per esplorare con classe una formula ed una modalità esecutiva riconducibili ai celeberrimi dischi strumentali di Nat King Cole degli anni ’40. Un disco non originalissimo ma estremamente seducente ancorché godibilissimo, che farà la gioia di quanti amano le deliziose, eteree combinazioni dello swing classico, interpretato qui con grande maestria da un trio dinamico e dagli equilibri perfetti.
