Azucena Maizani (17 November 1902 – 15 January 1970) was an Argentine tango singer, composer and actress who was born in Buenos Aires on November 17, 1902 and died in the same city on January 15, 1970. She was discovered in 1920 by Francisco Canaro and quickly emerged as a major star.

Background information. In 1925 she worked in the San Martín theater in the company headed by Héctor and Camila Quiroga, premiering two tangos that later became popular "Silbando" (Whistling) and "Organito de la tarde" (Little Organ in the Afternoon). She continued in 1926 at the same theater with Elías Alippi and at the Hipodrome theater located at Corrientes y Carlos Pellegrini Streets.

The cast included Azucena Maizani that sang our tango to great acclaim and was widely broadcast. But I was not there because in 1928 I had traveled to Europe and in France I met Gardel whom I had acquainted before at the Glücksmman house. He admired Tita Ruffo and other Italian singers. He joined the claque at the Teatro Coliseo just to listen to the great artists, the way they emitted their voices with a full sound without hesitation or trembling and other techniques, and later he practiced at home. He used to pass by my door whistling. I was 17 and he was one year younger. When he knew I was the songwriter of Organito de la tarde he approached me and told me: Hey, Cátulo, I have a little lyrics. D’you know?, it’s entitled El ciego del violín. Won’t you like to write a music to it?. I said yes, that I wanted to see the lyrics.
