The sound quality is terrible, very noisy. Firelink Shrine, my favorite track, is so spoiled by noise that I can't enjoy it.I'm giving it 2 stars because it still has some value for those who love the game, like me.

Without an official statement on the vinyl all Im left to look at is the Matrix runout. From that I can pretty safely tell that it was pressed at GZ media, one of Europes biggest pressing companies and the mastering was done at GS mastering and post. This is why it gets complaints, there is little care put in, the cheapest alternatives were used and they just ride on the name Dark Souls to sell.

Have to say, for my first purchase from SPACELAB and owning one of the 100 pressings of the Blue Eye Orb variant, they're not winning me over with this copy. My set is rather flawed. There's clearly audio degradation on the later tracks on all sides of each disc, and I'm unlucky enough to have near-unfixable skipping by the end of Side A. Note: Near. It can be somewhat resolved by scratching through the grooves via toothpick, but the skipping does occur; only less frequently. I suppose it's a fallacy baked into the vinyl, not so much the dust, dirt or whatever's blocking the grooves. SPACELAB did help out with replacement copies, but from what I got, they sound worse. I learned quite a lesson from this as a first-time record consumer to never get suckered into these limited edition variants if they don't meet the vinyl quality worthy of their sell.

Side-D I know there's no such thing as a flawless press, so I have to make due with near-flawless ones. Agreed, I find things like recording quality, mixing and mastering to be more important than the press however. At least with loud songs you wont be distracted too much by a bad press.

Side-D In this case, GZ Media was doing a pretty lousy job. And I'm surprised to learn they control a great number of vinyl presses, because again (of the records I owned, specifically Shenmue and Biggie's recent "Ready to Die" album), I got pressings that are near perfect. If not having surface noise or other sound imperfections counts as "alright", I'll stick to "alright". But this one isn't alright. Well its true that it is a little more complicated than so. Sometimes GZ media do the mastering in house and by computer generation, sometimes that is done separately, like in this case. Im just saying that in general, the releases that are associated with GZ media are mostly alright on all fronts, with exceptions. But if there are no press imperfections, the pressing is naturally flawless. Although no press is flawless.

Side-D I don't know if I can call GZ Media the culprit for a bad press. From the few records I owned, GZ Media pressings turned out pretty good; great, even. Thought the fallacy of this LP can be due to many things. GZ media is proven to not use high quality vinyl and the fact that they are almost the biggest pressing company in all of Europe explains why they cant have quality control on everything. Thats the nature of these companies. Im not saying every record is bad. I have my share of GZ media presses as well. Many are alright. But I have never been amazed by something from them either. But the company pressing the record is the culprit if the press quality is bad. Mastering is another issue. I havnt heard it myself but if you experience surface noise and unwanted sound anomalies thats dependent on the press.

It mostly depends on what pressing plant and mastering engineers the distributers decide to use. Without an official statement on the vinyl all Im left to look at is the Matrix runout. From that I can pretty safely tell that it was pressed at GZ media, one of Europes biggest pressing companies and the mastering was done at GS mastering and post, a program that does remastering automatically from what I can tell. This is why its so poorly made, there is little care put in, the cheapest alternatives were used and they just ride on the name Dark Souls to sell.
