Thought suppression is a type of motivated forgetting when an individual consciously attempts to stop thinking about a particular thought. OCD is when a person will repeatedly (usually unsuccessfully) attempt to prevent or "neutralize" intrusive distressing thoughts centered on one or more obsessions.

The Inherited Repression is proof that these Aussies MEAN BUSINESS! I remember first listening to Ob(Servant) when it came out. Before that, the only technical death bands I had heard were The Black Dahlia Murder and Decrepit Birth. So with Psycroptic being one of the first death metal bands I started listening to when I REALLY started getting into the genre in 2008, there’s sort of a sentimental connection I have with the band whenever I listen to them. The themes on this album obviously revolve around the possibility of a human-caused apocalypse. You can even see this just by looking at the album cover. In this album, it seems that the technicality in the guitars have been turned down quite a bit. Maybe there are a lot of technical riffs being played by the guitars, but they’re certainly being played much slower than on previous records. But Psycroptic knew better than to let all that technicality go to waste.

Streams of Thought, Vol. 1 carries that freestyle’s impressionistic spirit with that knowing audience in mind. Though this is Black Thought’s first solo project (previous would-be debuts Masterpiece Theatre and Danger Mouse collab Dangerous Thoughts were shelved), the EP avoids any Herculean this-is-my-time statements in favor of weaponizing the quiet self-assuredness he’s earned in his decades as the Roots’ vocalist.

Repression was the first defense mechanism that Freud discovered. Also, most experts consider repression the most important defense mechanism. Although Freud considered it an important theory, he also considered repression not a very successful defense mechanism for long term usage (the individual does not really have a choice whether to use it or not) because it creates undesirable feelings such as anxiety or anger due to thoughts and memories being pushed into the unconscious part of the mind. Freudian slips," or parapraxis, can be thought of as examples of repression. Freud believed that errors in speech, memory, or physical reactions were the result of something hidden in the offender's unconscious. One example of repression is what is called a "Freudian slip" or parapraxis.
