The plot points in director Steven Spielberg's 2011 film adaptation of the children's novel War Horse (which is separate from the stage adaptation that won the 2011 Tony Award for best play) are traced in the background score composed, as usual for a Spielberg project, by veteran John Williams. Williams' early cues, starting with "Dartmoor, 1912," have a warm Celtic feel, the full symphony orchestra playing a theme that recalls folk tunes like "Danny Boy" and "Greensleeves. After Joey, the horse, is sent off to World War I, Williams' music naturally takes on tension-filled and action-defining sections, particularly in "The Charge and Capture.

John Williams - an overview of the composer and his film music, including his considerable work with the director Steven Spielberg. Williams' music is firmly from the classical tradition, based heavily on the style of the late-romantics such as Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss. It has at times some modernistic overtones (such as with Close Encounters of the third kind), yet primarily it is just wholesome music full of good memorable tunes with fanfares and fun marches particularly prominent. Several of these works can be found on album collections of Williams' music. In the realm of film music, it seems as though Williams will always be very much in demand. In recent years he has been scoring the three "Star Wars" prequels, "The Patriot", the various "Harry Potter" films, the jazzy retro-sounding "Catch Me If You Can", and for Steven Spielberg, "AI" and "Minority Report".

Showing all 170 wins and 317 nominations. Best Music War of the Worlds (2005). Nominee Saturn Award. Considered one of the great composers of our lifetime, John Williams has been writing music for over 40 years. He began by playing piano at 20th Century Fox in 1956. He quickly moved up to writing music for such television shows as Gilligan's Island (1964), Lost in Space (1965), The Time Tunnel (1966) and Land of the Giants (1968). The Book Thief" from "The Book Thief Original Motion Picture Soundtrack".
