Quantum Jump was a 1970s British band, consisting of singer and keyboard player Rupert Hine, guitarist Mark Warner, bass player John G. Perry (then of Caravan), and drummer Trevor Morais (who had previously played in The Peddlers). The band is best remembered for its 1979 UK hit single "The Lone Ranger". Quantum Jump was formed in 1973 at Farmyard rehearsal studios by Trevor Morais and Jeffrey Levinson.
By the time Quantum Jump came to record their second album a full three years had elapsed, during which time guitarist Mark Warner had jumped ship and leader Rupert Hine had exorcised his passion for jazz-rock and funk. In every way, Barracuda is a superior album to the band's debut.

Barracuda is a music studio album recording by QUANTUM JUMP (Canterbury Scene/Progressive Rock) released in 1977 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. QJ's second album more or less continues on the sound built-up with their debut, even taking the loss of Mark Warner (to Cat Stevens's group) without that much notice. On more than one occasion, I was brought to think of Steely Dan's rather funky jazz-laced almost-MOR rock as the closest musical cousin
Barracuda is the 2nd and final album by Quantum Jump, with lyrics written by Martin Hall and Jeanette Obstoj. Lead singer Rupert Hine said of the album, With Barracuda, I hear the lust for change, but not successfully completed. Love Crossed (Like Vines in our Eyes)’ is so close to being something goo. nd it is something good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s so close to being something, perhaps I should say great. I suppose it was on its way to a different kind of music that formed my career and all came together in Immunity, the next record.

After Quantum Jump disbanded, Hine released a trilogy of albums under his own name, including Immunity (1981); Waving Not Drowning (1982); and The Wildest Wish to Fly (1983). The American release of Wildest Wish dropped two tracks, radically reworked two others and incorporated two tracks from 1981's Immunity – including "Misplaced Love", which featured a guest vocal by Marianne Faithfull and had been a minor hit in Australia, reaching number 14 on the charts. In 1985, Hine wrote and produced much of the soundtrack for the black comedy film Better. Quantum Jump (as part of Quantum Jump) (1975). Barracuda (Quantum Jump) (1977). Mixing (Quantum Jump) (1979).
