Rising (also known as Rainbow Rising) is the second studio album by the British rock band Rainbow, released in 1976. In issue 4 of Kerrang! magazine (cover-dated October 1981), Rising was voted the greatest heavy metal album of all time. In 2017, it was ranked 48th at Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time".

Jimmy was immensely proud of our new album and his input to it was immeasurable. He was a very kind and gentle and generous soul and our lives were greatly enriched for having known him. We will continue to celebrate his life through his music. In 1981, the bassist reunited with the former Rainbow vocalist in Dio, starting with that band’s landmark 1983 debut Holy Diver; Bain is listed as co-writer on four of that album’s nine tracks, including their classic Rainbow in the Dark. Bain remained a member of Dio for the heavy metal act’s first four albums (1984’s The Last in Line, 1985’s Sacred Heart, 1987’s Dream Evil) as well as their 1986 live album Intermission.

This is the album when Rainbow rose to greatness. The only one that does not really work for me is "Do You Close Your Eyes" which does not really seem to fit with the rest of the album. There is plenty of meaty guitar work from Richie Blackmore and Tony Cary throws in some great keyboard solos as well. the Best Rainbow Album, i think most would agree. i don't think Dio and Blackmore got on too well. with that said, one of the best Rock guitarists ever to live and "the best" vocalist ever to sing a Rock n Roll song together was enough to change me in 1976 when i heard it at Trinity in my Freshman year in.
