In 1969-72, Julie Rogers recorded for Jeffrey Kruger's UK Ember Records, and here in the U.S., Mega Records (C&W label known for Sammi Smith's huge "Help Me Make It Through the Night" hit) licensed some of Ember's UK recordings and issued a 10-song abridged version Lp on a similar UK title.(45RPM single)--Mega 0075 Where Do You Go/Almost Close to You (May, 1972)(Lp--U.S.)--JULIE ROGERS...WITH FEELING, Mega M31-1013The Mega Lp was the U.S. version of UK Lp, Ember NR 5050, JULIE ROGERS ONCE MORE WITH FEELING, which featured 14 tracks (7 per Lp side) versus the U.S. version on Mega Records with only 10 tracks. Two of the songs, "Once More With Feeling," and "Where Do You Go," were published through Glen Campbell's publishing companies from GC's TRY A LITTLE KINDNESS Capitol SW 389 Lp, and both Rogers' Lps, the UK Ember and US Mega, have liner notes credited written by Glen Campbell. Glen Campbell's 1968-70 UK records were released on Ember, and Jeffrey Kruger's organization booked his UK tours into the 1980s.This ONCE MORE WITH FEELING Ember NR 5050 14 track Lp:Side one--Almost Close to YouWhere Do You GoCome Tomorrow**Children of My Mind, Orphans of My Soul**JohnnyYou Better Sit Down KidsThe Impossible Dream**side two--Which Way to Nowhere**Baby, Don't You Leave MeLove Theme from the Film, 'Michael and Helga'Once More With FeelingBut You Know I Love YouThis Is MeNowSongs designated ** are absent from the abridged U.S. Mega Records' 1972 licensed album.Songs: Julie covers "Where Do You Go" and "Once More With Feeling" from Glen Campbell's late 1969 Lp, TRY A LITTLE KINDESS Capitol SW 389 Lp. Note: "Once More With Feeling" is NOT the same song as by Jerry Lee Lewis on C&W Smash/Mercury Records about the same time. "Which Way to Nowhere" is penned by Jimmy Webb. "You Better Sit Down Kids" is best known by Cher (Sonny & Cher), although this version seems to clone Glen Campbell's Lp filler cut found on GC's WICHITA LINEMAN, Capitol ST 103 Lp. "But You Know I Love You" is most familiar (to me) as by Dolly Parton's cut.All tracks are stereo, but they seem to be that late '60s distinct stereo separation, like the Beatles cut&paste mid-'60s stereo where the instruments and backing vocals sound isolated (rhythm tracks hard right, vocal backing about 10 o'clock, lead vocal centered), popping in and out, spliced in. Julie's vocals seem more "wavery" than her earlier Mercury recordings from 1963-65 on this album. Stylistically, this Lp leans toward more contemporary sounds (1969-70), like Tom Jones, Glen Campbell, early '70s Lettermen, 5th Dimension. Generally, the Lp sounds like a collection of miscellaneous tracks instead of a coherent theme. Best sounding, best and most seamless produced track on it is "Children of My Mind, Orphans of My Soul." Two of the tracks on the Lp look back at a thematic reworking of her "The Wedding" 1964 hit.Almost comically disturbing track: "Now" is, believe it or not, "Hava Nagila" with whitebread contemporary lyrics plastered on top of it. This track is also the most mono-sounding (narrow stereo) on the disc.
