Lortzing - Zar und Zimmermann, Prey · Schreier · Frick · Gedda · Köth - Heger. Robert Heger leads a fine and excellently cast performance, especially impressive when it comes to the male roles (thus we have a Hermann Prey on top form, a good Gedda and a Gottlob Frick who, although rather late in his career - the recording is from 1966 - is still in good shape). The female roles are, perhaps, less distinguished, but still overall good.

Hermann Prey ( Berlin, 11 July 1929 – Krailling, 22 July 1998) was a German lyric baritone, who was equally at home in the Lied, operatic and concert repertoires. His American debut was in November 1952, with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Eugene Ormandy, and his American recital debut took place in 1956, at New York's Carnegie Hall.

She can be seen on black-and-white video in the role of Rosina in a complete German performance of The Barber of Seville with Fritz Wunderlich, Hermann Prey, and Hans Hotter, and in a German performance of Don Giovanni, with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Donald Grobe, Walter Berry, and Josef Greindl.
