The Coriolan Overture (German: Coriolan-Ouvertüre or Ouvertüre zu Coriolan), Op. 62, is a composition written by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1807 for Heinrich Joseph von Collin's 1804 tragedy Coriolan. The structure and themes of the overture follow the play very generally. The main C minor theme represents Coriolanus' resolve and war-like tendencies (he is about to invade Rome), while the more tender E-flat major theme represents the pleadings of his mother to desist

Bernstein shouldn't have tried to compete on hallowed gorund, not in Beethoven, at least. His Fidelio from Vienna is the one exception, but these readings aren't. 7 people found this helpful.
Egmont "Overture" Op. 84 Ludwig van Beethoven. The Ruins of Athens op. 113, the overture composed in 1811 for the inauguration of the German theatre of Pesth, having as source a literary work, Kotzebue?s Bela?s Flight, presents an episode from the life of Hungary?s king. The overture was performed in first audition on February 9th 1812. A triumphant page of this overture is the Turkish March rendering the closing and the furthering of a Turkish patrol. It is orchestrated in the spirit of janissary music with many percussion instruments. 62) - Orchestra Egmont "Overture" (Op. 84) - Orchestra Fidelio Overture, Op. 72 (Op. 72) - Orchestra King Stephan (König Stephan), Op. 117 (Op.
