The Libertines is the second album by English indie rock band The Libertines. Released on 30 August 2004, it is particularly biographical of the relationship between frontmen Carl Barât and Pete Doherty. The album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, selling 72,189 copies in its first week of release. The album is included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. At the outset, she led the trio PJ Harvey, which delivered her stark songs with bruisingly powerful, punkish abandon, as typified by 1993's Rid of Me. Over time, however, the subtle and artistic side of Harvey prevailed. Her 2001 album Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea featured a heady mix of trip-hop, guitar rock, and troubadourism, earning her the prestigious Mercury Prize.
The Libertines are an English rock band, formed in London in 1997 by frontmen Carl Barât and Pete Doherty. The band was part of the garage rock revival and spearheaded the movement. Polly Jean "PJ" Harvey (née le 9 octobre 1969 à Yeovil, Angleterre) est une interprète britannique de rock alternatif. Elle a commencé sa carrière en tant que chanteuse et guitariste dans le trio PJ Harvey qu'elle forme avec Rob Ellis (batterie/chœurs) et Steve Vaughan (basse). Son premier album 'Dry' est sorti en 1992. En 1996 la chanteuse sort un album en collaboration avec John Parish, Dance Hall at Louse Point, sur lequel les textes de PJ Harvey accompagnent la musique de Parish. Après une courte pause pendant laquelle elle se consacre notamment aux albums de Mark Lanegan et Marianne Faithfull en compagnie de, elle sort un nouvel album plus minimaliste 'Uh Huh Her' (2004) sur lequel elle assure tous les rôles d'écriture, d'enregistrement et de production, et joue de tous les instruments.
