Bobby’s composition about a teenage rite of passage, ‘Summer (The First Time),’ became one of the most striking summer hits of the 1970s. It was a hot afternoon, the last day of June, in the memorable story that Bobby Goldsboro told on one of the most striking summer hits of the 1970s. In fact, it was the last week of August 1973 when his composition about a teenage rite of passage, ‘Summer (The First Time),’ was climbing both the US and UK charts. With its classy orchestration, the single entered the UK chart on 4 August and, as the Florida-born singer-songwriter hosted his own syndicated Bobby Goldsboro Show in America, it hit the Hot 100 three weeks later
