Deaf School are an English art rock/new wave band, formed in Liverpool in 1973. Between 1976 and 1978 they recorded three albums for the Warner Brothers label, in an art rock style that had its roots in cabaret, moving towards a harder punk rock sound. The band split in 1978 but have since been recognized as an important influence on many British musicians. According to Frankie Goes to Hollywood singer Holly Johnson: "They revived Liverpool music for a generation.

Amidst a flood of promos at my college radio station, the double-album reissue of DS first two albums really caught my ear. From my seat in the US Midwest, the clever quick music and lyrics were refreshing and just the kind of release I could argue in favor of for hours. Even now, I got a kick out of scanning in the the CD insert "Goodbye, Cruel World, and Cheerio!" If you like that you'll be hooked

What a Way to End It All: The Anthology. Deaf School 22/0/2006. English Boys/Working Girls was the third and final studio album from Deaf School. Like contemporaries the Boomtown Rats, the Clash, and Elvis Costello, they were trying to push popular music to the left, but somehow they never discovered an identifiable "sound" in the process.

Even now, I got a kick out of scanning in the the CD insert "Goodbye, Cruel World, and Cheerio!" If you like that you'll be hooked. One down note, (like I said, "what a way to write a review"), as the liner notes state, one of the band members in an interview stated "we were the right band at the wrong time" or something like that. Yeah, late 1970's music market for radio and records was like that...
