The title is generally thought to refer to Etheridge's recent coming out as a lesbian, confirming long-standing rumors about her personal life. This is the album that gave Etheridge national recognition.

Etheridge’s popularity built around such memorable songs as Bring Me Some Water, No Souvenirs and Ain’t It Heavy for which she won her first Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal. The 1993 collection's mercilessly driven, bluesy songs-nearly all dripping with sensual lyrics and rousing rhythms-made it the ideal breeding ground for a couple of career-enhancing music videos.
