The title Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach (German: Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach) refers to either of two manuscript notebooks that the German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach presented to his second wife, Anna Magdalena. Keyboard music (minuets, rondeaux, polonaises, chorales, sonatas, preludes, musettes, marches, gavottes) makes up most of both notebooks, and a few pieces for voice (songs, and arias) are included.

Ana Moura (born 1979) is an internationally recognized Portuguese fado singer, and the youngest fadista to be nominated for a Dutch Edison Award. Ana Cláudia Moura Pereira was born 17 September 1979, in Santarém, Portugal. Ana Moura's debut album was Guarda-me a Vida na Mão (2003), followed by Aconteceu (2005). She sang in various nightspots in Lisbon and became known on television, performing fado with Antonio Pinto Basto.

Amalia Rodrigues, (aka "The Voice of Portugal") is featured nine times on the album, with "As Penas," "Ojos Verde," and "A Tendinha," among others, while Salgado Armando Freire provides five songs, including "Fado do Ciume," "Fado Armandinho" (referring to his nickname), and "Olhos Bonitos.
