68 Symphony in D minor London Mozart Players - Leader: David Juritz Matthias Bamert. About the composer: Ignace Joseph Pleyel (June 18, 1757 – November 14, 1831) was an Austrian composer of the Classical music era. He was born in Ruppersthal in Lower Austria, the son of a schoolmaster named Martin Pleyl. While still young he probably studied with Johann Baptist Vanhal, and from 1772 he became the pupil of Joseph Haydn in Eisenstadt.
Orchestra: London Mozart Players. Conductor: Matthias Bamert. Composer: Ignace Joseph Pleyel. Audio CD (April 22, 1997). These symphonies by a so-called lesser master (Pleyel) who studied with one of the greatest masters (Haydn) of his time are very well written and exhibit a rather high level of inspiration.
