Ultramega OK is the debut studio album by American rock band Soundgarden, released on October 31, 1988 by SST Records. Following the release of the EPs Screaming Life (1987) and Fopp (1988), both for the Sub Pop record label, Soundgarden signed with SST and went to work on their debut full-length. The resulting album contained elements of heavy metal, psychedelic rock, and hardcore punk. The band supported the album with a tour of the United States, as well as its first overseas tour.
The album is a unique blend of Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and the Butthole Surfers that tells why there was a devoted cult that followed Soundgarden around in their earlier days. But the one thing that bothers me about this album is the crappy production courtesy of SST. Ultramega Ok is not completely a punk record and the metal influnces falter because of this. I sadly say that i kinda listen to the BBC version of "Flower" on Telephantasm more than the studio version here

The best expression of Soundgarden's early, ppelin/Sabbath sound, Ultramega OK is a dark, murky, buzzing record that simultaneously subverts and pays tribute to heavy metal. At times, the band and its recasting of over-the-top '70s hard rock seem smirky (Hiro Yamamoto's ridiculous vocal on "Circle of Power"; a "cover" of John Lennon's "One Minute of Silence"); a few, like the cover of "Smokestack Lightning," really do sink into turgid metal silliness
