Slaughter released their third album "Fear No Evil" in 1995. While melodic rock music was no longer the "in thing" by this time, Slaughter paid no attention to trends, and made what many have considered their best album. While listening to this record you'd never have noticed that bands like Alice in Chains and STP were ruling the airwaves at the time. The cover of Fear No Evil may not be as good as the Wild Life's, but the music is better. The Wild Life's problem was that it had too many pop-metal ballads; every song turned into an anthem for driving around on Friday nights looking for love outside your zip-code, which is fine, but the Wild Life wasn't a succesfull rock record. It was too mired in radio-friendly contrivances to get down to good old fashioned rock 'n' roll. It's reliance on gimmicks that were no longer hip made the Wild Life a shallow and unsatisfactory record.
To retaliate, Slaughter stuck together and became one of the first hair metal bands to sign with CMC International, an independent label who decided to preserve pop-metal for the late '90s. Fear No Evil, the first record Slaughter released on CMC, isn't a triumphant comeback, but it isn't bad either. They never were among the best pop-metal groups, lacking the hooks and charisma to make it to the top, but Fear No Evil shows that they could rock harder than anyone would have expected
