The opening tango, full of uncertainty and achingly slow, is the truest part of the Holy Body Tattoo's hour-long Circa, choreographed and performed by artistic directors Noam Gagnon and Dana Gingras. It's full of passion, subtlety, and wonderful partnering. The setting, with a red velvet curtain hanging upstage and four chandeliers, is elegant, and on the soundtrack British musician Martyn Jacques gives a haunting, gravel-voiced rendition of Send in the Clowns, complete with bandoneon.

The Holy Body Tattoo is an award-winning Canadian contemporary dance company based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Formed in 1993 by co-artistic directors and choreographers Noam Gagnon and Dana Gingras, who had performed together since 1987, and also Jean-Yves Thériault composer-musician and co-founder of Voivod, initially as a multi-media dance company, they have performed throughout Canada, Europe, Asia, and the United States, and received international critical acclaim as well.

Jean-Yves co-founded The Holy Body Tattoo an avant-garde modern dance company base in Vancouver BC and also wrote extensively all the music for it, as well as other electronic music projects, while Denis Belanger isolated himself and eventually started a new project, Union Made. Meanwhile, the band recorded four albums as a trio in the mid-to-late 1990s with new member Eric Forrest, nicknamed "E-Force", handling both vocals and bass guitar. The album is based around riffs found on the laptop of guitarist Denis D'Amour. Just prior to his death, he left instructions for his bandmates on how to use them. In November 2006, the song "X-Stream" was featured on Guitar Hero II.
