Mayday Parade have been going strong for a decade now, and with their fifth album, which dropped last week, of course they’ve still got us all talking. idobi writers Hannah Pierangelo and Alex Mayes sat down for a mini listening party of the new release Black Lines. Here’s Hannah to tell you all about what they thought! Black Lines is difficult to get a grip on, because it’s so emphatically different from anything Mayday Parade has ever done. It’s nothing like the kind of happy heartache pop-rock a listener might come to expect.

A note: since this album has only been out for a couple of hours (or at least I've only known of it's release for a couple of hours), so this is based on a first listen. Mayday Parade has always been a strange case for me. They were a highly acclaimed pop punk band (which is a genre I listen to too much) with their first album "A Lesson In Romantics". From what I've heard about them, every other album from them is apparently not great, because a key member on their debut left after it's release.
