The Chordettes were one of the longest lived vocal groups with beginnings in the mainstream pop and vocal harmonies of the 1940s and early 1950s.

The Chordettes were an American female popular singing quartet, usually singing a cappella, and specializing in traditional popular music. They are best known for their hit songs "Mr. Sandman" and "Lollipop". The group organized in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, in 1946. The original members of the group were Janet Ertel, Alice Mae Buschmann Spielvogel (replaced by Carol Buschmann, her sister-in-law, in 1947), Dorothy "Dottie" (Hummitzsch) Schwartz, and Jinny Osborn/Lockard (April 25, 1927 – May 19, 2003)

Other Godfrey alumnae signed to the label included the Chordettes. According to legend, Bleyer was fired from the Godfrey show when he signed someone Godfrey regarded as a rival to a record deal. Godfrey later fired singer Julius La Rosa in October 1954, causing a storm of controversy at the time. The Chordettes Sing Your Requests is an album recorded by The Chordettes and released in 1954 by Columbia Records as catalog number CL-6285.

Arthur Godfrey was an active entertainer for most of his life, at least a half a century of performing in radio, television and movies, of singing and playing ukulele and guitar, stepping up to microphones to give voice to his latest promotional scheme. Whether it was new talent he was promoting o. .His importance is considered paramount to the television medium, an innovative new technology during the most energetic period of Godfrey's career that needed its own celebrities and spokesman, all the better if the roles could be rolled into one. During the '50s it was literally impossible to escape from Godfrey if either a radio or television had been turned on. There are many aspects of the Godfrey mystique-his facial expressions, some say his hair-that seem best experienced in a visual medium, such as DVD reissues of classic television programs.
