Surfacing is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan. Released in 1997, it was produced by McLachlan's frequent collaborator, Pierre Marchand. McLachlan set about writing Surfacing in 1996, after two and a half years touring for her previous album, 1993's Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. Mentally exhausted, she found it difficult to concentrate on her new album and took six months off in Vancouver.

The album "surfacing" by sarah mclachlan is a masterpiece to begin with. And nobody could have listened to the cd more than I have through the years. I had originally purchased, Sarah's "Surfacing" when, it first came out but, it got misplaced and never found. Recently, I was driving in my Toyota truck and pulled out a cassette tape of Sarah doing a "Storytellers Special" for VH1 and started listening to it. I hadn't listened to it for almost 14 years but as soon as, I started listening to it, I fell in love with Sarah's music and her personality all over again.
Surfacing is Sarah McLachlan's 4th studio album, released July 15, 1997. It was produced by Pierre Marchand. It was McLachlan's bestselling album, debuting at number one or number two on the Top 40 charts in many countries, and officially confirming her star status in many countries (most notably the United States) where her 1993 album Fumbling Towards Ecstasy had been a steady seller but didn't fully establish McLachlan as a mainstream pop star.
