Otto Von Schirach ‎– 8000 . Label: Schematic ‎– sch017. Everything about this album is profound and absolutely unmatched. From the album artwork, the lyrical content of the songs, the sounds and the execution. This lp is fucking golden. Reply Notify me Helpful.

This is the debut album from an artist who comes across as weird even on a very weird label. This glitchy, funky t-beat extravaganza is a highly impressive feat of programming - on most tracks, what sounds at first like a junkyard of samples, synthetic noises, and abused beatbox outputs coheres quickly into a highly (even compulsively) organized patchwork of polyrhythms and quick-shifting textures.

From the evidence on Otto Von Schirach's 8000 . this young man from Miami can imagine many, many sounds, and he knows how to translate what he hears in his head into 1s and 0s. In terms of the diversity of sounds produced, 8000 . is an impressive display of programming skill. But then, so was Linux, and yet I've never felt inclined to pour over the code. Perhaps some endeavors are so entwined with technical mastery that only technical masters can truly appreciate it. From where I sit, 8000 . feels like that kind of record.

Otto von Schirach is an IDM and breakcore artist from Miami, Florida of Cuban/German descent. His style is more sporadic and noisy than other artists in the genre, and his visual aesthetic leans on the heavy metal side rather than electronic. He has released most of his work on the Schematic and Beta Bodega labels, and was featured in the 2002 documentary Electro Dziska.

Otto Von Schirach, half Cuban Native Indian half German Anunnaki wolf, was born in the 3rd point of the Bermuda Triangle, Miami. Some people say he was dropped into the triangle by a UFO or arrived in a Gravitron. As a child, his grandmother practiced Santeria, White Magic and the supernatural arts. She raised him to open his eyes to the strange and bizarre paranormal and to practice magic with God. Otto grew up in an area known as Tre Duece Ave. where the kids followed heavy Miami Bass and Cuban Tropical music

Amazing that this came out in 2001. The sound is not dated at all. The crisp crinkles and stuttering clicks with the blurry ambience and thundering bass are very pronounced on my vinyl copy. This is when Schematic records was a powerful contender in the idm biz. Me being a native Floridian it gives me an extra amount of enjoyment that this came from my birth state. Florida is a very diverse and perplexing contrast of inhabitants as is perfectly displayed with this release and considering that Otto is half Cuban and half German. Crazy experiments ensue in these microchip swamps down here.

Unless you're into music production yourself, this album (and most of Otto's work, in general) is probably not going to interest you; it'll sound like a bunch of random sounds sequenced by a monkey. To the rest of us, though, this is a beautiful work of genius. As Otto's first major release, it nearly shattered me to hear it; his obvious mastery of the arrangement of the most unusual sounds ever is like having a circus full of smelly animals, social rejects, and disturbing machinery shoved into your ear. If you've seen any of Rob Zombie's movies, this is the soundtrack he meant to use on the scenes he wanted to make but couldn't translate to pictures and sound. As far as the album goes, it all sounds the same unless you're intently listening to it all the way through (which is difficult to do unless you have the vinyl version and can look at the amazing gatefold cover art). Seriously, though, I treasure my Schirach albums almost as much for the art as for the music! Sounds that caught my attention: Mr. Soundwave's interspersion of words in various tracks D3 - Insectdezyde Juice -> the bass-in-trunk vibration sample

This is probably one of the best albums ever released. I can't express how incredible the sounds/manipulations are on this release. I became a member (pain in the ass, can't we just simply post?) for the express purpose of writing this. Also, as was said with in the CD version comments, some of the best album art ever. If you think the CD art is good, pick up the Vinyl. This also goes with his CZF trilogy vinyl. Awesome design. 8000 BC a must have for anyone into DSP, complexity...
