Scoring all sorts of genres in film and television, Kurt’s resume comprises a huge back catalogue of compositions from Marvel blockbuster, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, to the recent Hacker and Flight 192. He is also responsible for the music on Bryan Cranston’s fast-paced, stop motion show, SuperMansion, so it’s not unreasonable for him to expect a lot from his gear. The Nero does not. You have gotten to score a lot of different musical genres with SuperMansion. Is there one that you haven’t gotten to explore yet that you would like to? Kurt Oldman: Yes, we certainly have covered a lot. Show creator Zeb Wells and I have been talking about doing a ‘show tune’ episode as a classic Hollywood Musical since early Season 2. Now that would be interesting and we have some incredibly talented singers in the cast. Chris Pine is one hell of a singer and puts his own twist on everything.

What are the main challenges when approaching composition? For me the main focus really is to find the right score for the film and to get the tone right. You’ve been doing a lot more composing for films recently, how will you use the ASP880 for this? I have a pair of stereo microphones setup at all times when writing, just in case something pops up.
