It criticised Mugabe and his government, with which Mapfumo was becoming more and more disillusioned. Mugabe wasn't happy with Mapfumo, either, and Mapfumo became the target of government harassment. Danger Zone is a 2015 album released by Dr. Thomas Mapfumo (aka The Lion of Zimbabwe) and The Blacks Unlimited. Since the 70s, Dr. Mapfumo has solely written his Chimurenga music genre that he has consistently performed. Chimurenga, a term that resembles a struggle for peace and freedom carries a powerful theme for social justice. Dr. Mapfumo performs with the aid of the mbira instrument (a powered thumb piano). The dreadlocked Dr. Mapfumo who has become a voice of the voiceless on social justice issues, began his music career by playing western music upon forming his band in 1978.

And Mapfumo's falsetto singing in the chorus of "Nherera" is simply heavenly, worth the entire album by itself. Besides the band as a whole, guitarist Joshua Dube stands out as a star of this recording. He truly captures the spirit of both Jonah Sithole and Eprhaim Karimaura, who both buoyed the Blacks Unlimited over long periods of time. Dube's sparkling yet mellow tone and instinctive sense of the appropriate thing to play set him apart and elevate the music to its status as one in a long line of classic Mapfumo releases.
