Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive is the fourth studio album by Joe Jackson. Released in 1981, it is a collection of covers of classic 1940s swing and jump blues songs originally performed by musicians such as Louis Jordan and Cab Calloway, the latter of whom's song "Jumpin' Jive" was the eponym for this album.
Jumpin' Jive" was covered by new wave artist Joe Jackson (under the band name Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive) on his 1981 album of the same name. The album, originally conceived as "a few pub gigs for a laugh," also featured other jump-blues tracks, including Calloway's "We the Cats (Shall Hep Ya. Charts.
David Ian "Joe" Jackson (born 11 August 1954) is an English musician and singer-songwriter. Having spent years of studying music and playing clubs, Jackson scored a hit with his first release, "Is She Really Going Out with Him?", in 1979. This was followed by a number of new wave singles before he moved to more jazz-inflected pop music and had a Top 10 hit in 1982 with "Steppin' Out". The singer-songwriter decided to make Joe Jackson's Jumpin' Jive, a record featuring covers of old swing and jump blues tunes made famous by Louis Jordan, Cab Calloway and Glenn Miller. At the height of new wave and the dawn of the MTV era, a jazz detour wasn’t the most obvious choice. However, Jackson had become fascinated with post-war jazz as a young man. I just had an insatiable curiosity about all kinds of music as a kid, as a teenager especially, Jackson told the . The album was recorded in London in May 1981, and quickly released that June. Despite the sudden change of genre, the LP fared well commercially in Jackson’s native England and the . Nos. 14 and 42 on the album charts, respectively). The album’s only single – "Jumpin’ Jive," made popular by Calloway – was even a modest hit in Britain. Pretty good for a jazz record in 1981.

Jumpin' Jive proved to be one of Joe Jackson's most adventurous projects as he tries his hand at covering a bunch of Louis Jordan and Cab Calloway tunes, ranging from the extravagance of big band to bop to vibrant swing music. The album broke the Top 50 in the . and made it to number 14 in England, with the title track peaking at number 43 over there as well
Joe Jackson’s cover, the single off the album, made Number 43 in UK in mid July, 1981. Joe moved to New York, and is still very active in the swing and jazz fields, as recently as 2012 his latest album topped the .
